My Journey

Hi, I’m Rubbie Groves-Clay, and I bring over 33 years of experience in Real Estate and 35+ years in Property Management. I’m also a licensed insurance agent specializing in Life, Health, Property, and Casualty insurance, with additional expertise in Accounting and Marketing.

These varied experiences all played a crucial role in shaping me as the author of my published book, "GET A HOLD OF YOUR DARN FINANCES... Not Only Can You Buy A House, But You Can Buy Whatever You Want...".

My journey is all about helping people, both in my community and beyond. I’m passionate about showing others that financial freedom isn’t just a dream – it’s achievable. My mission isn’t only about helping people buy homes but about teaching them to live a life full of possibilities: budgeting, building wealth, investing, opening businesses, sending children to college, and leaving a legacy that will impact generations to come.

Early Struggles

My story isn’t your typical rags-to-riches tale. It’s one of resilience, growth, and determination. It’s the story of a teen mom who decided her circumstances wouldn’t define her future. It all began in the halls of Sumner High School, where I was a 15-year-old girl, pregnant, and surrounded by people who thought I was destined to fail. But something inside me told me otherwise.

I had a dream – a big one. I refused to let anyone else dictate my story. I wasn’t going to be just another statistic. I didn’t want to be the girl who dropped out and gave up on life. So, I worked hard to prove everyone wrong. Not only did I graduate, but ironically, I became Homecoming Queen. That was my turning point. That wasn’t just a crown; it was my promise to my son and myself that we would write our own story—one filled with determination, strength, and success.

The Lightbulb Moment

At my lowest, a friend invited me to a financial course at our local church. It sounded boring, but I gave it a shot. And guess what? It was anything but boring. That little $15.00 course wasn't just educational, it changed my life. It gave me a mentor, a plan, and most importantly, hope. In just eight months, I went from stressed to savvy. I learned to budget, save, and spend wisely; that became my new normal. I paid off debts like a mad woman and started to really understand money – not just how to make it, but how to keep it and grow it.

A New Direction: Real Estate

Growing up, my mother worked as a private duty nurse at the Dorchester Apartments in Clayton, MO, caring for a retired realtor named Ms. Marc. On Fridays, I would visit with my young son to help my mom, but what I loved most were the peaceful walks I’d take around the neighborhood. As I strolled past the big, beautiful homes, I couldn’t help but dream of owning one of my own one day. It was during one of those visits that Ms. Marc suggested, “Why don’t your daughter get her real estate license?” I hadn’t considered it before, but it sparked something in me. I decided to give it a try. Why not? I dove in, uncertain but excited to see where it might lead.

The journey wasn’t easy, and I had much to learn, but with each step, I felt myself changing. Fast forward: I was now a mother of three beautiful children, making more money than I ever imagined. People expected me to look and dress a certain way, to "play the part," but beneath the polished exterior, I was battling mounting debts and growing overwhelmed. Despite making hundreds of thousands of dollars and acquiring eight apartment buildings, I faced an unexpected reality: more money didn’t mean fewer problems. The life of a successful real estate broker looked glamorous from the outside, but I was still living paycheck to paycheck, running in circles, and feeling stuck.

Finding My Purpose

It was the year 2012.  I was working on a new construction project, in which a staggering 90% of the visitors could not qualify for a modest $600 house payment.  I GOT PISSED. The stark reality of financial instability struck a nerve and I couldn't ignore the glaring issue any longer. It was a moment of awakening, my AHA moment.

Fueled by a desire to make a difference, I decided to take proactive steps to address the root cause of this pervasive financial illiteracy. This decision led me to embark on a transformative journey that gave me a new purpose. I channeled my passion into crafting a compelling story titled "Get A Hold Of Your Darn Finances."

As the words flowed from my pen, I discovered not only my voice but my true gift of storytelling that encompassed my core values. The act of writing became a medium through which I could empower and educate others about the importance of financial literacy. It was in those moments of crafting a narrative that I realized the potential to effect positive change in the lives of individuals struggling with financial challenges.
